"Under the Arch

This image stemmed from an idea two months in the making. It was shot while spending a night inside Spider Web Arch in Monument Valley (which the guide service has claimed has not been done before). I was unsure if I'd be able to pull it off as permission had to be obtained from the Navajo guides. I wanted to capture what the Natives of long ago might have seen while gazing up at the night sky from inside their shelter of rock. It's truly an amazing feeling to be in the middle of nowhere watching the Milky Way rise up above you. It conjures up many emotions ranging from deeply spiritual to feeling very small in the grand scheme of things.

Schism

Death Valley has some of the darkest night skies I have ever seen. It was an awesome experience to stand on top of the dunes and gaze at the galaxy above. This is a single exposure 6 minute image of the stars above the Ibex Dunes. I wanted to go longer on the exposure but even though the sky was dark there was quite a bit of air traffic. I hope you enjoy....... Specs are f/2, 375 seconds ISO-280 at 24mm

The Same Sky

Although this is a fire watch tower it takes me back to sitting in a guard tower with my M-60 in the middle of the desert, looking up to the night sky & wondering if it looked the same back home in the USA.
