Schism

Death Valley has some of the darkest night skies I have ever seen. It was an awesome experience to stand on top of the dunes and gaze at the galaxy above. This is a single exposure 6 minute image of the stars above the Ibex Dunes. I wanted to go longer on the exposure but even though the sky was dark there was quite a bit of air traffic. God's Gonna Strike You Down

While shooting the lightning Saturday night at the Elvis Memorial Chapel we found ourselves stuck in the storm with no escape. Luckily we were able to take cover and let the storm blow over. It was quite intense being surrounded by lightning (and immediate thunder) in all directions. I don't think I've witnessed a storm like this since I was a kid. I hope you enjoy....

The Guardian

As I stood mesmorized at the sight of the Canyon before me, I could not help but wonder how many people, photographers, sunrises, & storms has this old gnarly tree witnessed. Golden Hour at Canyon Lake

Truthfully, I was feeling quite uninspired. I then remembered that I had once said "I want to do something great". After convincining myself that I can not do something great if I'm moping around the house I threw my gear in the truck and headed out to Canyon Lake. Canyon Lake is one of my "go to" spots. I can generally be there in 45 minutes & it never seems to look exactly the same.

Touching the Void

I was blessed with the opportunity to get out & photograph the sights in Lake Tahoe after a winter storm dumped a blanket of snow in the area. Although it was slightly treacherous getting here I was equally blessed to find some unblemished snow. Shown here is a small section of the upper level of Eagle Falls that overlooks Emerald Bay in Lake Tahoe.

I have fallen in love with Lake Tahoe...... The vibrant sunsets, snow capped mountains, pine trees, and the sound of waves crashing.... What's not to love?

Kind Of Blue

As the last bit of light filters out of the canyon the landscape takes on a different tone. I borrowed the title from the 1959 jazz album "Kind Of Blue" from Miles Davis. It was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the scene. Much like the album, it has a "blue" feel but it also has other layers to it.

A Nod to the Gods

I almost did not make the trip up to Monument Valley due to the road conditions. Yet I felt a very strong force pushing me to make ther trip. I was a little disappointed yesterday when I arrived after driving in the snow for three plus hours and found no snow at all at Monument Valley. Even in 21 degree temps this particular morning I was grinning from ear to ear when I found the valley dusted with snow. I think the photography Gods were smilin' down on me
